Organizing and Outreach Intern GOLEFT.ORG, an on-line community of progressive activists, marries the interests of pop culture, advocacy, and social networking. GoLeft.org is a year-old start-up organization that provides an on-line organizing tool, which brings attention and resources to local progressive groups by appealing to the political, social, and pop cultural interests of activists. The GoLeft.org Organizing and Outreach Intern will work with our Director in our NYC office to carry out day-to-day activities of GoLeft and help to plan community events. This position will provide the opportunity to learn critical organizing skills. By the end of the summer we expect the intern to have strengthen their leadership and organizing skills, increased their knowledge of how grassroots organizations function and gain confidence in running an outreach campaign. There will be one internship available for the summer of 2008. Internship will begin in June and end in mid-August. Intern will commit to 100 hours during the summer with days/hours to be determined. Stipend is $1,500 plus monthly city transit fare. We will support efforts to obtain any school credit available to you to the best of our ability. Responsibilities: ? Communication with volunteers and members ? Outreach to high schools and colleges ? Plan activities to increase visibility and outreach ? Assist in the development and distribution of outreach materials Qualifications: Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communications skills, attention to detail, strong online research skills, and the ability to work efficiently and independently. Enthusiasm for progressive organizing is a must. Candidates should be computer savvy and comfortable on the phone. Positions are part-time and paid. Each blogger will lead an online community focusing on a different social, political, or environmental issue, maintain a daily blog covering news and offering commentary, convene leading nonprofits and activists working on the issue, and help people translate their interests and passions into concrete action.
